35th National Milo Marathon - Race Results

I was really excited in this run, my first major run. I was a bit disappointed that Jeri and ate Yna didn't run due to a bad weather. But I was really determined and had  a mindset that no matter what happens, I will definitely run. It's a good thing Angel confirmed that he was. I had a taxi to bring me to MOA, this also my first run in MOA, so many first in here. When I was looking for the 21k baggage area. I heard the gunstart. The race I was excited about started without me. Finally, I found the baggage area. I pleaded to the baggage staff to get my bag immediately. I jumped off the steel fence and with no warm up, I ran.

The rain poured like there's no tomorrow, well I was just exaggerating a bit, another first on the list. But I felt great I believed the rain will give me more strength. I was looking for Angel and for other familiar faces but I can't find anyone until I reached the Luneta U-turn. I paced with Angel up to 13 km. I was surprise I was still running up to that point maybe the POWERAIN(Poweraid+Rain) helped me. I increased my pace for 1 km and noticed my eyes is getting blurry. I didn't know if it's the rain that gets into my eyes or I was exhausted. To worsen things up, I felt pain on my stomach, it's like a cramp or something. It happens to me normally on every run. I asked someone about the time, I had run for almost 1.5 hr. I felt confident that I can beat the cutoff time of 2.5 so I slowed a bit and did the run-walk strategy. At last I saw the last turn and saw the time, 2:06. I knew I had more strength left in me so I sprint the last 200 meters. A new PR. I was so happy. I can't help but shout. I didn't care about other finishers who finished ahead of me. I really love the medal. It's worth running. I wished every medal would be this great.

Well when I saw the official result, my official time logged to 2:16. I was disappointed, again. But all-in-all, it was a great run. Running in the rain is really something that all runners must experienced. Till next year Milo.

Takbo.ph Runfest 2011 Race Results

It's almost a week and I haven't still write something on this run. It's a good thing I was able to squeeze time for my thought to be posted.

Pre Race:
I was really excited about this run. After three(3) Half Marathons, I'm back at 10k. I wanted to break the 1hr barrier. With the training I had I'm positive about it. I was with Jeri and Angel at the starting line but I felt that I won't be able to do my normal pace if I'm with them. I went to the portalets as an excused then do my warm up.
When I proceed to the starting line I saw a familiar face, it's the Kikay Runner. I had to think twice if she's really the real one hahah. After few seconds, I came up to my senses that she's really the Kikay Runner. I wanted to have a picture with her. I tried to look for Ate Yna for the camera but unfortunately I wasn't able to find her.

The Race:
I ran slower than my normal pace since I expected a tough run because of the uphill/downhill route of Mckinley. I was able to passed Jeri but we didn't talk. I hoped I could passed Angel too, but with his pace I knew he's way up ahead. I met him at the 10k U turn approximately 30 meters ahead of me. I continued to ran the pace until 8km. When I was about to make surges I accidentally stepped on a whole. I was looking for a sign of sprain and luckilly I was A-OK. I surged for 30 seconds and jogged for 1 minute then surged again. I had a strong finished but I wasn't able to see or catched up with Angel. He was in good condition too.

Post Race:
I was really disappointed not to achieved my goal. Although it was a new PR I really thought I could finished it under 1:00:00. But guess who is in the finish line to lighten me up. It was the Kikay Runner hahaha. I looked for Ate Yna again hoping she's already at our meeting place but I couldn't find her. Another time wasted. By the time I found my company, Kikay Runner is nowhere to be found. But I never ran out of luck that day. Before the race came to end I saw Kikay on the opposite side of the stage. I didn't wasted more time, I grabbed Ate Yna and rushed to her. I asked her if we can have a picture together and that's it. I even won the "Bring Me" contest but hurting my knee for jumping the stage hahaha.

Race Assessment:
Singlet:                       9   (Disappointed with the singlet design on picture, when I saw it personally, WOW)
Baggage Counters:     8   (Only 3, maybe they expected low numbers of runners but it was organized)

Yamaha Run for Heroes - July 3, 2011 - Race Results

Arrived early at BGC. Only Jeri and I participated in the event. Luckilly she was able to convinced her ate Yna to do the camera jobs. I did my usual warm up and stretching. I noticed a Kenyan jog. I can't help myself but observe him for a little while. I was curios on how he warm up and run. Nothing special I think.

I proceed to the 21k area and prepare for the gunstart. I was confident to achieve my goal time(2:10:00) and beat my PR. It's also a test run for the Milo Marathon eventhough it's 3 week after this event.

The gunstart fires and I ran slower than my normal pace. I had to remind my self not to run fast for at least 2km. I surged to the first water station, that was about less than 100 meters, drink water and walk for 30 seconds and run my planned pace.

I finished the race not feeling exhausted however my legs were tired. Especially my right knee. I felt pain whenever I bend it to touch my chest. Maybe my endurance is not yet enough for 21k.

I was little bit disappointed since I didn't reached my goal and not break my PR. But I was happy overall. It was my best run so far. To add to my disappointment, there is no medal waiting for me at the finish line. But runrio assured us that it will be delivered. I received my medal yesterday, thanks.

I would like to congratulate Jeri on her first 10k with a time 1:07. That is much faster than my first run which is 1:11.

I can't believe there are also cheaters on this event. I was surprised when Ms. Joy of PPCC talked to me about it. For me, the main purpose of running is discipline. I train hard to finished the race but others simply do the easy thing. On the second thought cheating is never easy hahaha. Maybe they also train on how to cheat. See story from Kulit on the Run.

Mizuno Infinity Run 2, 06-11-11 Race Results

I've been busy this day that I wasn't able to blog about my run. My daughter is not feeling well because her growing tooth. And my team mate from our department is on leave so I got to handle all the incidents until he report to work.

Finally I got a chance to write something about it.

Pre Race:
Jeri and her sister Yna is also joining the race so I decided to sleep in their house. Both of them is running 5k mileage. We woke up around 3am and have some wheat bread with peanut butter, hard boiled eggs, low fat milk and coffee. I did some research so we ended up with this breakfast. We split up when we arrived at BGC. I jogged maybe a mile for my warm up and then stretched. Fifteen minutes before the race I feel like going to the portalets but I thought I can handle so I went straight to the starting line.

The Race:
This was kinda funny. As the host's doing her thing, a gun fires, I thought it was a false start but then the host screamed "Step on the mat, step on the mat." I was expecting a countdown just like any other runs. But then again the race begins and I started to run. I ran my pace for about 3 kilometers, picked up the pace for around 1or 2 kilometer then ran my pace again. I reached the 7 kilometer mark for about 40 minutes. I've seen my other running mates at the Mayapis loop. I feel proud since I was leading them but there is no competition between us as far as I'm concern. After that I started the run-walk pattern. I believe it's important to conserve energy since I have a very long way to go. When I reached Mckinley I was really tired, I continued the run-walk pattern spending more time on walks. Thanks to the good weather. It lessens the burden that I should be dealing. Sonata is doing her job very well. It's her Baptism of Fire. Keeping my feet from feeling any pain, but my right knee is gradually feeling a discomfort. At long last I saw the last turn, I gathered myself and ran at full speed. I wanted a strong finish, and I did. It was a great run. I recorded 2:26:00 approximately, beating my first 21k for about 13 minutes.

Post Race:
I was disappointed. I was expecting a finishers medal at the finish line but I got nothing. I headed to the baggage area to claim my bag. I claimed my finisher's shirt and my Gatorade from a different booth. I think it is better since I don't have to fall in line for a very long time. When I was heading to the photo booth, I saw Jeri and Yna already at the front of the line(feeling lucky). I was able to have pictures with Coach Rio too.

The organizer announced that they ran out of medals but the courier from Air21 is already headed to BGC to bring more. Angel, Mon and I hang out a little bit for more pictures and luckily the courier from Air21 arrived and we were able to claim the medals.

The Runner's World 8-Week Beginning Runner's Training Program

Here is the program I used during my first 2 months of running. Hope it will help you as it helped me.

Follow this plan to become a runner.By Amby Burfoot From the August 2004 issue of Runner's World
Here are 4 key points to consider before you begin the 8-Week Program.

1. If you are over 40, not accustomed to any exercise, or more than 20 pounds overweight, consult with your physician. Unless you have a known health risk, your doctor will probably encourage you to begin a run-walk program, but it's always wise to check.

2. Schedule your workouts. You won't find time for them unless you make time for them. Put them in your PDA, computer, daily appointment planner, on the front of your refrigerator, or wherever else you keep your schedule.

3. Expect bad days. Everyone has them, but they pass quickly, and the next workout is often better than the previous one. So stick with the program.

4. Don't rush. In the fitness world, rushing leads to injuries and discouragement. Be patient, and go slow. The goal is to reach 30 minutes of continuous running, not to set any records getting there.

For clean air and healthy lungs, try not to do your workouts at the side of a busy street or during rush-hour traffic. Find low-traffic streets where any exhaust will be dispersed quickly. Even better, as often as possible, try to run in greenbelts--in parks, on bike trails, around reservoirs, and the like. Success may come quickly to you as a beginning runner, but the race is never won. Run for life.

Registered. Had a hard time looking for BMG Centre. I thought it is near Alphaland as the Mizuno coordinator said but it's not. Jeri and I walk almost a mile searching for the building. Fortunately we were able to find the store on time and claimed the last slot for 21k mileage. Jeri registered for 5k.

adiZERO Boston 2

I will surely miss my first pair of Fila running shoes. I used it as a gym partner, a casual outfit and lately as a running shoes. All I can say is it never give me a foot problem after runs. After one year(almost) affair I decided to part ways with it. It's already worn out  and I can feel the ground on every stride I make. I can feel problem with my knees( I don't what it is called) specially on the long runs. It was the last of it I believe. As an overall rating, It served me will.

May 22, 2011: I went to SM North Department Store and looked for for a New Balance brand. The salesman told me that I can't used my discount coupon I got from Goldilocks Fun Run so I decided to look from other store. I went to Toby's and look for shoes designed for flatfooted which I believe for some time that I am. Fortunately there was Foot Guide by Runnrs installed in that store. I did try the test excited and surprise that I have a neutral foot. And I ended up buying the adiZERO Boston. It has a nice grip on foot, it's lighter than my old pair and I like the design. I will call it SONATA I still need to break it in to see its performance.

June 1, 2011: At long last I was able to break-in Sonata. I blamed it to the poor weather that I wasn't able to test her immediately. I ran my tempo runs in Legaspi Park. Since she's new I felt very stiff. I don't want her to have her scratches or get some dusts(lol). After few minutes jogging I felt comfortable. I picked up the pace and I felt like floating. As if my feet weren't touching the ground. All I can feel is the soft cushion from my soles absorbing the impact of my stride. My feet didn't feel any pain except for the sprain I got from basketball. I covered approximately 5km for about 30 minutes and my feet and knees felt okay. I wanted to go on but it's already dark.

June 7, 2011: This is the second time I tested my Sonata. I used to ran my intervals. I did the usual brisk walking and stretching then I started to jog for maybe a mile. After 4 rounds of intervals I felt exhausted. Usually I feel exhausted after the 6 or 7 rounds. I think I've gone to fast. I really went fast. I believed it's because of Sonata. She's lighter than my previous pair. It makes you ran faster even if you don't realize. I just walked the recovery interval of the remaining rounds because I was really exhausted. I ran for about an hour but my feet didn't feel any pain. And that's the best of it. I will just have to adjust with my pace when using Sonata. It's a good thing that I break it in. All in all this is a good pair. I have now my new running buddy.

UNILAB Run United 1 2011 - March 6, 2011

This is my first run, so I decided to blog about it even if it's late.

After 2 weeks of jogging I decided to join the event. The day before the race I surfed the net to look for the foods to eat before the race. I just end up eating bread :-(. I slept to my office mate's house. I had a hard time getting my sleep. Maybe because of excitement, I woke around 4am. I have coffee and bread for breakfast. My friend drove me to BGC.

I can't imagine that there are lot people participating on this event. Plenty of chics I should say, lol. I was fired up when I heard the Runrio theme. Then the gunstart fires and so with my running journey. I had a good start. Make stop on every water station. I feel exhausted when I reached 8k. I tried to run but my feet were not there so I walk. 1k before the finish line I heard the theme song again. I started to gain power and run and reached the finish line. I can't explain the feeling. It was very satisfying and very fulfilling. The moment I stepped on the finish line felt like the I was born again . Every tick of the clock is like weeks, months or even years that you can think of all the things that you had to prepare for the run. It was like forever. I have a record of 1:11:09 which I think is not bad.

When I got home, I had a full body massage courtesy of Manang Manghihilot then sighed "this is life" like what I always say then I fell asleep. That was an experience. I know I will be running more.

End of Celtics Big 3?

I am a Boston Celtics fan. Before this season starts, I feel that this will be the last run for my Celtics. I got excited when they are rolling on the pre-season standings. I feel that they can do it. Especially after they beat the Heat 3 games to nail during the preseason. But after the post season, the problem starts, maybe the age factor begins to matter. And the Kendrick Perkins trade made it worse. Their middle became so fragile. It became visible during the last stretch of the post season when they post a miserable 11 loses out of 20 games.

I have a second thought when they swept the Knicks on the first round. But who are the Knicks anyway? A duo of Stoudemire and Anthony.  They are good players but without Billups as their leader they are just scorers with no direction (that's what I think). Then the 4-1 lost to the Heat. It was very obvious that they can't finish what they started. Especially in the final quarters. Those losses were close. It was only decided on the last minutes of the game. Their legs is not there and maybe their hearts too. I hate to see them shooting the ball from 15 feet and beyond. What I like to see is them pounding the ball inside, muscling their way in, the way they play when they win their last crown. I like to see the old warrior's hearts, those tiger's eyes, the killer instincts. Maybe it's their in their heart but unwilling to come-out.
After the loss, a light has shine. Doc Rivers will be back for them next season. Then they could start to seek the missing pieces. Maybe a dominant center and a fast guard that can defend the likes of D-Wade and LBJ. It will be good if that player can penetrate the middle too.
Well I wish my Boston Celtics good luck. I believe they are not done. But they have to start working now if they want to put that 18th banner next season.

Goldilocks 45th Anniversary Fun Run – May 15, 2011

Done with the registration. Unfortunately I wasn't able to convince my friend to run the 10K mileage. All I have to do is practice, practice and practice. I will finish my first 21K mileage. I will.

"Running for Love"

Good day to everyone. Since I will be blogging more about my runs, it will be appropriate to give you the reason why I decided to run.

I really like sports. I played basketball, baseball, bowling, badminton and there's more that I would like to try. I had my eye on running during my grade-school. I was able to make it to track and field team but never try to run a race. And that was the last time I had running as a sports.

One day I saw my brother-in-law wearing one of his singlet. I think it was nice having one, lol. It also happens that some of the Grepalife employees are running too. The desire of running was rekindled. And so I decided to jog after office 3x a week for about 30 minutes.

After 2 weeks of jogging I decided to join running events. My first running event was the Run United 1 2011 last March 6, 2011. Thanks to Unilab and Runrio. It was 10k mileage and I finished with 1:11:09. I really had fun and I felt alive. This will just be the beginning of a very long journey of RUNNING.

Holy Week Itinerary: Home Sweet Home

After office I will play Lan Games with my officemates. The game is somewhat addicting(in my case). I expect lot of trash talks and many of them coming from me(lol). After the game maybe I will grab(literally) something to eat then go home to prepare my things. Yes, I won't go to work tomorrow. I will be spending the holy week in Pangasinan. I'll be bringing my daughter to my parents. I'm sure they're excited. But you know what I'm excited about. Me seeing them, of course. I also like to see how my nephew is doing. I'm sure he's grown and become more playful. I miss my friends. I've known them since I was a kid. I miss the beach. We also celebrate our Fiesta on Black Saturday and that means food, a lot of food. I'm sure diet is not on my priority list. I really like coming back to that place. It's really good to be at place where you're at peace. It is HOME.

Heart of Tarrasque

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Phil 4:13
To be honest, I'm not a bible reader . Although I graduated from a catholic school, I only learned what I wanted to know. I got this passage from a former classmate and a friend. He told me that this is his guide and I made it mine too.
I'm a regular employee from a respectable company with a not so bad salary. I have a 3-months old angel and wife who's currently not with us. She fly few months after giving birth.  My daughter is too young and longing for her mom. A voice soothing to her ears is what she needs. I miss my wife and I know she miss me too. I'm not a fan to this kind of setup. What I wanted is both of us can observe and witness our daughter as she grows. But I've got no choice. We have to work together for our child's future and ours too.
If I don't want this setup, I should not let it happen. I should stop this from happening. But what can I do, what can a regular employee with not so bad income can do to make his family together. We plan to go where my wife is, which is promising. Greener Pasture, and the idea of living together to a different place is thrilling and exciting. But can that solve what I desire. I hope it can, some of it perhaps. But I need some other options. And what are those options. I don't have any idea. Maybe I have but I'm such a coward to try different things.
Then I remember the passage, my guide. This give me hope and strength. I know I can make things change. I believe in myself. I can do it. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
